I’m Jen Best from Beaker Button yarn shop at The Fairground Craft Centre in Weyhill. I opened on 3rd November 2011 at the end of a difficult economic period. We've weathered political upheaval, pandemic,, and personal tragedy, and we're still going strong 11 years on. Our workshop program is extensive, and we’ve taught thousands of people learn to craft over the last decade. We champion British wool, small independent business, fair trade yarns, and natural fibres. We are committed to bringing the joy and benefits of crating to everyone we can, with local in person classes, craft supplies, and help, and a thriving online craft community, workshops via zoom and the internet, and our own designed and produced kits, books and patterns. We celebrated our birthday with a day of taster workshops for some of our regular customers. We learnt to read 4 shaft loom drafts with Jude Gilchrist from Loomin Marvellous, then had a go using small cardboard looms Jude had provided. We learnt to silk paint with Debbie Wheeler, a local textiles tutor connected to Whitchurch Silk Mill, and produced beautiful cards. Our last session was with Carole Henry from Myosotis Jewellery, who taught us to braid. We made fantastic bracelets and added Dorset buttons to finish them off.
Perfect way to support small business like me, test class ideas for next year, and celebrate 11 years of Beaker Button!
